Psychological serviceis a structural unit of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi Cherkasy National University, which is concerned about mental well-being and promotes the improvement of the quality of education and life of participants in the educational process. One of the main tasks of the work of the psychological service is to develop the personality of the student who, after graduating from higher education, will be able to successfully engage in professional activities in conditions of competitive and changing market relations.

The main tasks of the psychological service:

• popularization of psychological knowledge and development of psychological culture of higher education students;

• assistance in creating optimal conditions for comfortable learning and professional development of students;

• creation of an atmosphere for realizing the creative, personal and intellectual potential of students and teachers;

• provision of psychological assistance in order to support and preserve the mental health of participants in the educational process.

The main areas of activity of the psychological service at the ZVO include various types of psychological assistance:

• psychological education, which is focused on the formation of students of higher education motivation to study psychological literature for the purpose of personal development and self-improvement;

• psychoprophylaxis. After all, the best solution to a problem is its prejudice. For this purpose, the psychological service of the university periodically invites to open lectures, the topics of which depend on the request of the administration of institutes/faculties or on psychological phenomena/trends that prevail in society;

• psychodiagnostics - students have the opportunity to pass tests recognized by the scientific community, the results of which highlight the degree of expression or state of a specific mental state, process or phenomenon;

• psychological correction - systematic work aimed at helping to reduce/disappear specific destructive features of human behavior that interfere with optimal self-realization with the help of special measures of psychological influence;

• psychological counseling – individual work, the purpose of which is to help the applicant in: self-discovery, adaptation to changing socio-economic life; formation of the value-motivational sphere; achieving emotional strength, balance, which contributes to self-improvement, etc.

The psychological service helps in solving the following range of problems related to:

• normalization of the level of self-esteem;

• experiencing depression, panic attacks, eating disorders;

• feelings of resentment, loneliness, emptiness and a decrease in the level of vital energy;

• guilt;

• conflict and toxic relationships with other people.
